Maruti Suzuki, the Indian subsidiary of Suzuki, announced the new model of its compact sedan, the Desire, on November 11. The Dzire, launched in March 2008 based on the second-generation Swift, has been reborn as the fourth-generation model.
Since its launch in the Indian market, the Dzire has sold over 2.7 million units. It is the highest-selling subcompact sedan with a length of less than 4,000 mm (157.5 inches). The body size of the Dzire is 3,995 mm (157.3 inches) in length, 1,735 mm (68.3 inches) in width, 1,525 mm (60.0 inches) in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,450 mm (96.5 inches).
Equipped with a 1.2L 3-cylinder gasoline engine
The exterior design has also been changed
Compared to the previous generation model, the length, width, and wheelbase length are the same, but the height has increased by 10 mm (0.4 inches). It shares the 1.2L 3-cylinder gasoline naturally aspirated engine mounted on the next-generation Swift and generates a maximum output of 82 horsepower and a maximum torque of 11kgf.m. In the case of the transmission, it is combined with a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed automatic transmission and moves with front-wheel drive.
On the exterior, changes were made mainly to the front, expanding the size of the radiator grille and adopting right-angled headlamps. This erased the cute impression of the Swift on which it is based. The headlamps, which have sharp ends, are connected by a black high-gloss band line, creating a visual sense of unity.
Larger radiator grille and sporty bumper design
The front fascia is dominated by Suzuki’s signature logo, framed by silver accents that add a touch of refinement. The trapezoidal grille features a horizontal pattern, while black trim around the fog lights and a sculpted, voluminous bumper enhance the car’s sporty appeal. Together, these elements give the Dzire a more aggressive and modern stance.
The upward-sloping window line flows past the B-pillar from the side, tapering toward the rear to complement the coupe-inspired roofline. The raised rear bumper and sleek proportions lend the Dzire a dynamic, athletic look, unusual for a subcompact sedan. At the rear, T-shaped tail lamps, connected by a subtle horizontal band, echo the design language of the front, ensuring a cohesive and unified aesthetic throughout the vehicle.
Equipped with a 9-inch display and an interior with faux wood trim
The interior of the fourth-generation Dzire reflects its Swift-based roots, featuring a clean and familiar dashboard layout. At its center is a 9-inch touchscreen display positioned prominently for easy visibility. Below the screen, physical buttons and knobs are arranged horizontally to control air vents and the air conditioning system, combining modern design with user-friendly functionality.
Suzuki has added faux wood trim to certain parts of the cabin, introducing a subtle hint of luxury that belies the sedan’s affordable pricing. The infotainment system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, catering to tech-savvy drivers and enhancing convenience.
The display is compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In addition, to supplement the safety evaluation lacking in the previous generation model, specifications such as six airbags, electronic stability control (ECS), and pedestrian protection devices are applied as standard. Desire, which had newly added safety specifications, earned a five-star rating on the Global NCAP(New Car Assessment Program) test. The high-performance model offers features such as automatic air conditioning, a 360-degree camera, a wireless charging pad, an electric sunroof, and Suzuki Connect. The price of 4th generation Dzire is 679,000 Indian rupees to 1,014,000 Indian rupees (about $8,040 to $ 12,008).
