Actor Lee Jung Jae is set to attend the press conference for Netflix’s highly anticipated series Squid Game 2, sparking speculation about whether he will address his connection to Han Dong Hoon, leader of South Korea’s People Power Party and his former high school classmate. The event, scheduled for Monday, will take place at an undisclosed location in Seoul’s Dongdaemun district and mark the world premiere of the second season.

Lee Jung Jae and Han Dong Hoon’s shared history has attracted attention, especially given Han’s recent involvement in the failed impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk Yeol. The two men made headlines in 2023 after meeting at a Seoul restaurant for a beef short rib soup meal, an encounter that sparked widespread media discussion.

South Korea’s political landscape has been turbulent. Yoon’s surprise declaration of martial law on Tuesday was quickly lifted after just six hours following intervention by the National Assembly. A recent impeachment vote against Yoon failed when members of the ruling People Power Party abstained. With Lee Jung Jae’s ties to Han Dong Hoon, many speculate whether the actor will comment on these events at the press conference.

Squid Game 2 promises to be an exciting continuation of the global hit. The new season picks up with Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae) returning to the deadly competition, seeking revenge and facing off against the enigmatic Front Man (Lee Byung Hun) in a high-stakes showdown.

The first season of Squid Game, released in September 2021, became a cultural phenomenon, breaking Netflix viewing records and winning six Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series. With such success, expectations for the second season are sky-high. Fans can look forward to Squid Game 2, which is set to premiere worldwide on December 26.
