Hyeri Gets Candid About Her Real-Life Personality: ‘I’m Not Always Cute, I’m Serious Too’

Girl’s Day’s Hyeri recently opened up about her personality in a fun and honest YouTube video, giving fans a glimpse of her off-screen self.

On Friday, Hyeri released a new episode of her YouTube series Hemeko, titled “Just Make It Hip, Anything Goes.”

In the video, Hyeri visits hairstylist Giwoo for a layered haircut and asks for a hip style. When Giwoo jokingly asks if she considers herself hip, Hyeri laughs sheepishly and admits, “I’ve actually been told to stop calling myself hip.”

Giwoo then pressed her further, asking, “Fans often see you as cute on screen, but what about in real life? Are you hip?” Hyeri responded honestly: “Well, I don’t have a label for myself. I’m just… me.” This candid reply had the production crew laughing, as they pointed out, “She may seem cute on screen, but in person, she’s more serious than you’d expect. It’s just her appearance that’s cute.” Hyeri playfully agreed, saying, “That’s right. I do look cute,” before flashing an adorable expression.

With her diverse career spanning music, variety shows, acting, and YouTube, Giwoo asked Hyeri which field she feels most at home in. Without missing a beat, Hyeri responded, “I think variety shows suit me best.” However, when asked if she enjoys her busy broadcasting schedule, Hyeri admitted, “It’s not always fun. Sometimes, it can be overwhelming. No one puts pressure on me, but I tend to put much pressure on myself.”

Giwoo observed that talking to Hyeri felt more like chatting with a friend than working. Hyeri’s response was unexpectedly frank: “When I’m filming, it really does feel like I’m just hanging out with my older colleagues. But I can hang out with my real friends when I’m not filming, right? Isn’t that more fun?” Her candid remark caught Giwoo a bit off guard.

When asked about her emotional farewell on the final episode of DoReMi Market (a popular Korean variety show), Hyeri explained, “I’m the type of person who cries when saying goodbye. Once I let those emotions out, I feel relieved and clear-headed. In this industry, you’re constantly meeting new people and saying goodbye. After spending entire days together, you’d think I’d be used to it by now. But I still cry a lot.”
