As controversy surrounds Song Min Ho’s alleged dereliction of duty, fellow WINNER member Kang Seung Yoon has distinguished himself in military service.

Kang Seung Yoon, the only member of WINNER to serve as an active-duty soldier, was discharged on Thursday after fulfilling his service obligations with the Army’s 6th Infantry Division.

Throughout his service, Kang Seung Yoon earned praise for his exemplary conduct. He was recognized as an outstanding trainee, won an award at a military literary competition, and earned an early promotion to corporal. In addition to his military achievements, Kang Seung Yoon demonstrated a strong sense of civic responsibility. Last July, he donated 10 million won (about $6,900) to support victims of severe flooding in South Korea, showcasing his commitment to using his public platform for positive social impact.

Kang Seung Yoon’s discharge has drawn increased attention, especially amid the ongoing allegations against his bandmate, Song Min Ho, regarding military service negligence. True to his low-profile nature, Kang Seung Yoon is expected to complete his service quietly, without a formal discharge ceremony.

On Tuesday, Dispatch reported that Song Min Ho, who has been serving as a social service worker, allegedly failed to regularly report to his assigned post at the Mapo Community Welfare Center. In response, his agency, YG Entertainment, stated, “We cannot disclose specific details regarding our artist’s service,” but clarified, “Sick leave and vacation time were used by regulations, and the reason was an extension of medical treatment that predated his service.”

In response to these allegations, the Military Manpower Administration has launched an investigation, warning that if the reports are substantiated, Song Min Ho could face penalties under laws governing social service workers. Additionally, the police have received formal complaints requesting an investigation into Song Min Ho’s potential violations of military service laws, and the case has been assigned to the Mapo Police Station.

With Song Min Ho’s discharge scheduled for December 23, all eyes are on how this controversy will unfold and its impact on WINNER’s future.
