The Russian government has issued a directive to several universities suggesting that students failing exams be conscripted into the military.
A letter written in Russian began circulating on social media platforms, including X, on Sunday. The document, confirmed from the Sverdlovsk regional government, was addressed to V.A. Koksharov, president of Ural Federal University and chair of the regional higher education council.
The regional government urged the university to explore promotional and referral activities for military service contracts. The target group includes students struggling academically, those with academic warnings, facing expulsion, on leave, or those planning to return to their studies.
One commenter sarcastically stated that failing your exams means getting sent to the front lines. Another commenter who claims to be Russian expressed outrage, saying, This villain should be sent to the military for three years.
