The controversy began when a Chinese netizen under the handle Chen Zhanqifei posted on Weibo (微博-China's version of Sina Weibo) on April 24 about an incident at the Singapore Airshow 2024 venue. Another Weibo user confessed, "This made Chinese aviation fans feel disgusted." There were further claims of being physically restrained by German soldiers. A video went viral on WeChat (微信-Chinese version of KakaoTalk) showing an attendee asking if Chinese nationals were allowed to board the flight, to which an employee replied that they were not. In the face of mounting criticism, Airbus immediately apologized. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused," Airbus told the Global Times, adding that "Chinese visitors were allowed to board freely for the remainder of the flight."
