[The Guru=Hong Seong-il Reporter] Global content company Walt Disney celebrated its 100th anniversary with collaborations with companies like Hyundai Motor.
Hyundai Motor’s U.S. sales subsidiary (HMA) announced on the 22nd (local time) that it has started selling the IONIQ 5 Disney100 Platinum Edition. The selling price is set at $59,400, with a delivery fee of $1,375.
The IONIQ 5 Disney100 Platinum Edition was produced to commemorate Disney’s 100th anniversary last year. It was co-designed by Disney’s research and development organization, Imagineering, and Hyundai’s designers. Imagineering is a research and development (R&D) organization that creates Disney theme parks and develops various special effects for Disney. Hyundai was previously selected as the exclusive automotive sponsor for the ‘Disney100’ celebration project currently being held to commemorate Disney’s 100th anniversary.

Its design features are clear. Designs inspired by Disney have been extensively applied to the interior and exterior. Displays were added near the headlights and rear lights to activate the ‘Disney Spark Animation’. It is said to resemble the fireworks display at Cinderella’s castle when Disney movies begin. The wheel design stands out with three silver semi-circles. On either side of the semi-circle are two black circles. It is designed to remind of Mickey Mouse, Disney’s representative character. A ‘Disney100 Platinum Edition’ badge was added to the side of the vehicle body to enhance its specialness.
The interior is also full of special elements. When the car is started, a Disney logo and music play on the 12.3-inch central display screen. The ‘Disney100’ logo is engraved on the seat headrests and center console, and Mickey Mouse characters are included on the door trim (inside of the car door). The sunroof on the interior ceiling is decorated to look like fairy Tinker Bell’s magic dust is fluttering around.

Walt Disney has collaborated with several companies other than Hyundai for its 100th anniversary as well. Walt Disney was founded on October 16, 1923, by the Disney brothers, Walt and Roy. Its name at the time of establishment was Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio.
In April of last year, Honda unveiled a Disney edition based on Super Cub 125. The Super Cub 125 Disney Edition, of which only 100 units were sold, was also exhibited at the 2023 Bangkok Motor Show.
Italian scooter manufacturer Piaggio released the ‘Vespa Primavera Mickey Mouse Edition scooter in June of last year through its Vespa brand to commemorate Disney’s 100th anniversary. The ‘Vespa Primavera Mickey Mouse Edition’ was designed with Mickey Mouse as its motif. In particular, the side mirrors, which were designed with the shape of Mickey Mouse’s ears as the motif, attracted attention, and the combination of Mickey Mouse’s characteristic colors – black, red, white, and yellow – highlighted its features.
In November, Fiat also unveiled the Topolino EV, designed using Disney characters. The design of the collaboration vehicle was handled by Disney artist Giorgio Cavazzano. Fiat held exhibitions for a total of five collaborative Topolinos.
