Airframe Business Division shipped the 200 units of A-10 wing structure
200 units produced within two years of initial delivery
The Boeing A-10 wing structure supply project of Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) is going smoothly. KAI focuses on fulfilling the contract by shipping 200 wing structures worth 330 billion won (approximately $278 million) scheduled to be supplied to the Boeing A-10.
According to KAI, on the 30th, the Aircraft Business Division held a ceremony to commemorate the shipment of the 200th A-10 Outer/Central Wing Structure (OWP/CWP) at the assembly hall of the headquarters on November 6 last year. The ceremony was attended by the US Air Force, Boeing officials, the head of the Aircraft Business Division head, the Aircraft Production Division head, and related practitioners.
KAI achieved the shipment of the 200th unit about two years after starting the initial delivery in early 2022. KAI entered the in-house machining of the first wing structure in 2020.
The A-10 is an aircraft that performs the Close Air Support (CAS) mission of the US Air Force, also known as the “Tank-Killer.” Boeing BDS ordered the A-10 project, and the final delivery destination is the US Air Force. It was ordered to replace the main wing of the US Air Force A-10 aircraft.
KAI signed a 330 billion won (approx. $278 million) A-10 wing structure supply contract with Boeing. The supply contract size includes the newly improved OWP (147 billion won, approx. $124 million) and CWP (186 billion won, approx. $157 million), totaling 330 billion won (approx. $250 million).
The reason KAI won the A-10 wing structure supply project is that KAI has gained credibility by supplying the A-10 outer wings. KAI has provided a total of 173 A-10 OWPs to Boeing from 2007 to 2018.
Park Kyung Eun, the head of KAI’s Aircraft Business Division, said, “Currently, significant contributions are being made to achieve KAI’s management goals through continuous productivity improvement and operation rate improvement,” and “Employees have done their best for their assigned tasks to achieve the goal even in difficult conditions.”
