Gap, a leading American apparel retailer, has named American fashion designer Zac Posen its creative director.
According to the Associated Press on the 6th (local time), this is one of the first major personnel actions of Gap’s new CEO, Richard Dickson, who named Jack Posen as creative director.
Gap announced that Posen, as the vice president and chief creative officer of the low-cost brand Old Navy chain, will work closely and report directly to Haio Barbeito, the president and CEO of Old Navy.
Posen launched his collection in 2001. He became a famous designer often seen on red carpets, known for his glamorous and body-hugging gowns. However, his business had to fold in 2019 due to management difficulties.
According to AP, since taking office as chairman last August, Dickson has aimed to recover sales that have been sluggish for several years. He has a successful track record of revitalizing the Barbie and Hot Wheels lines as president of the toy company Mattel.
“Posen’s technical expertise and cultural clarity have continuously evolved American fashion,” Dickson said. “He is ideal for igniting a new culture of creativity across our portfolio and injecting vitality into our brand.”
Gap’s stock price closed up nearly 1% at $19.97 and has risen 31% over the past 12 months.
