Jeep Accelerates Electric Vehicle Plans: Wagoneer S Coming to U.S. Market in Q2

globalautonews Views

Jeep plans to launch its first battery electric vehicle, the Wagoneer S (pictured above), for the U.S. market as early as the second quarter. It was initially planned to be launched at the end of this year. This is what Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa revealed to local U.S. media. Next, the automaker plans to launch its second EV, Recon, at the end of this year. Unlike GM and Ford, which delay their plans, Jeep is accelerating the launch date.

Jeep unveiled three EV models in 2022, and the first model, the Avenger, was launched in the European market in early 2023. The Avenger, which is 13.38 feet long, is a subcompact SUV that offers a range of 342 miles (WLTP standard) in the city. It also won the European Car of the Year award in 2023.

The company will launch its first EV model, the Wagoneer S, in the U.S. in the second quarter. S stands for speed, striking design, and style.

The Wagoneer S offers standard 4xe capability with all-terrain capabilities. It produces a maximum output of 600 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

Jeep plans to roll out its EVs in other major global markets, starting with the launch of the Wagoneer S. Following the Wagoneer, the Recon EV will also be launched. The Recon is based on the group’s STLA Large platform and is expected to generate a maximum output of more than 600 horsepower. This platform offers a battery pack option between 85 kWh and 118 kWh, and in the case of a sedan, the range is up to 500 miles. It also offers 400V and 800V options.

With the ability to traverse the mighty Rubicon Trail, this rugged electric SUV is ready to continue Jeep’s off-road tradition into the EV era.

Jeep also plans to release the Grand Cherokee EV in 2027 and the Wrangler EV in 2028.

As part of its Dare Forward 2030 strategy, Jeep’s parent company, Stellantis, aims to expand the proportion of EVs in its total vehicle sales in Europe to up to 100% and up to 50% in the U.S. by the end of the 2020s.
