British Automaker INEOS Under Fire for Electric SUV Resembling G-Wagon

UK Automaker, INEOS
New model unveiled following Grenadier
Eye-catching design similar to the Mercedes G-Wagon

UK’s INEOS Automotive has unveiled its electric SUV, the Fusilier. At first glance, it attracts attention as it resembles Land Rover Defender and Mercedes G-Wagon. It was officially unveiled on February 23, 2024, and full-scale production is scheduled to begin in 2027.

The models currently being sold by INEOS include the Grenadier, and INEOS’s lineup will be two ones when the Fusilier is officially launched. Since Grenadier will be officially launched in South Korea this year, the unveiling of Fusilier is also meaningful.

Electric off-road SUV
Equipped with Samsung SDI battery

The INEOS Fusilier, which aims to launch in 2027, will produce two versions. In particular, in addition to a pure EV powertrain, the Fusilier will also be available with a range extender powertrain that uses a small internal combustion engine to charge the battery pack. The pure electric driving range is expected to be about 400 km (about 250 miles), and one thing that stands out is that Samsung SDI’s batteries will be supplied so customers can see South Korean technology.

Fusilier will be launched as a fully electric vehicle. Still, the range extender version will have a smaller battery pack to deliver a pure EV range of 270 km (about 170 miles). However, its actual operating range will be higher as the internal combustion engine can maintain the battery’s charge level while the vehicle is on the move.

The ultimate off-road design
Resembling both the Defender and the G-Wagon

The expected features seen from the exterior include a steel body, aluminum doors, and a monocoque body instead of a frame body. The design, which seems to reflect the tastes of the INEOS Automotive Chairman, known as a Land Rover enthusiast, also attracts attention. As described earlier, it resembles a Land Rover Defender and Mercedes G-Wagon mix. The similarity in design to already successful models is an advantage and makes up for the low awareness.

Although no information about the interior design has been released, it is expected to have a similar structure to the Grenadier currently on sale. The Grenadier’s interior has a masculine, rugged, intuitive design that mimics the large body, and many buttons provide a complex feel.

Growing through various technological partnerships
The result of the Chairman’s love for SUVs

INEOS, which started as a chemical company, aims to become the top off-road leader. In particular, the company is growing aggressively through enormous funds, including signing a technology partnership with BMW and acquiring Mercedes-Benz factories. This shows INEOS Automotive Chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s love for off-road vehicles.

The detailed powertrain and details of the INEOS Fusilier have not yet been revealed and are said to be scheduled to be unveiled this fall. If this model is released in South Korea, it is expected that there will be demand from off-road SUV enthusiasts.
