Renault Korea’s French parent company, Renault, has been recognized for its electric vehicle technology in Europe. The Scenic E-Tech, a Renault Scenic electric vehicle that was transformed from an internal combustion engine MPV into an SUV, was selected as the Car of the Year in Europe, beating out competing models such as the Kia EV9, BMW 5 Series, and Peugeot 3008. It is raising expectations for the new electrified vehicles based on the Aurora Project of Renault Korea, which is scheduled to be produced and sold in South Korea in the future.

On the 27th, Renault Korea announced that the Renault Scenic E-Tech won the Car of the Year at the ‘Geneva Motor Show 2024’ held in Switzerland.

Renault Scenic E-Tech earned a total of 329 points from a panel of 58 judges from 22 countries, earning the honor of Car of the Year. Along with the Renault Scenic electric vehicle, seven models, including Kia EV9, BMW’s new 5 Series, Peugeot 3008 (E-3008), Volvo EX30, Toyota C-HR, and BYD Seal, were shortlisted and closely competed.

Renault Scenic E-Tech is a pure electric vehicle model developed based on the Renault Group AmpR platform. The size of the vehicle is similar to the Kia Seltos. The vehicle is equipped with a pouch-type ternary system NCM (Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese) battery supplied by LG Energy Solution. The battery capacity is 87kWh, which can drive up to about 388 miles (about 620 km) according to the European WLTP standard. Originally, the Renault Scenic was a model developed as a mini-van type MPV. As part of Renault Group’s electrification strategy, it was reborn as a compact SUV model starting with the 5th generation model.

In this evaluation, its sufficient space, excellent performance, and battery performance received positive reviews, and it was named Car of the Year. This is the 7th time that the Renault brand has been selected as Car of the Year at the Geneva Motor Show (Europe). Past award-winning models include Renault 16 in 1966, Renault 9 in 1982, Clio in 1991, Scenic in 1997, Megane in 2003, and Clio in 2006.
