Rapper Ravi, facing charges of violating the Military Service Act, has expressed his remorse and vowed never to forget his mistake.
On the 31st, the 2nd and 3rd Criminal Division of the Seoul Southern District Court held an appeal trial for Ravi and nine others, including rapper Nafla.
The court of first instance sentenced Ravi to one year in prison, two years of probation, and 120 hours of community service, and Nafla to one year in prison. Ravi accepted his punishment, but the prosecution appealed for unfair sentencing.
The prosecution argued on the day, “The defendant, from a public position, attempted planned military evasion through a military broker, and his criminal nature is evil,” and sought a two-year prison sentence.
In his final statement, Ravi said, “I am spending every day reflecting. I have done my best to be a proud figure for those who love me in society,” expressing his remorse.
He continued, “I am ashamed of myself for joining a scheme that reached the level of crime amid such efforts. I made a choice that harmed others.” He appealed for leniency, saying, “Although I am a person with many shortcomings, if given the chance, I will never forget my mistake for the rest of my life.”
Ravi is accused of receiving a 4th-grade supplementary military service assessment by lowering his physical grade due to his claim of suffering from epilepsy. He is charged with receiving a scenario of epilepsy from an army broker, acting as if he had fainted to get a hospital examination, ignoring the doctor’s diagnosis, and demanding medication to get a treatment opinion. He is currently serving as a social service agent.
