[TV Report=Reporter Yoo Bi-chwi] Disney’s first black princess, “The Princess and the Frog,” is being turned into a Disney+ series. It will be released under the title “Tiana.”
According to entertainment media Variety on the 9th (local time), Joyce Sherri has been recruited as the lead writer and director for the Disney+ series “Tiana.”
“Tiana” is a sequel to the 2009 animated film “The Princess and the Frog.” Anika Noni Rose, who voiced Tiana in the film, is set to reprise her role in “Tiana.” The series was scheduled for release in 2023 but has been postponed to 2024.
Joyce Sherri previously directed the Netflix series “Darkness in the Mass.” In addition to this, she has written and directed short films such as “Beauty,” “Forever,” and “The Family Romance.” Joyce Sherri is a winner of the 2020 Slamdance Screenplay Competition with her feature “Sweet Sixteen.”
Walt Disney Animation Studios plans to produce “Tiana” in the same way they produced “The Princess and the Frog.” Nathan Curtis will be producing, with Jennifer Lee and Stella Megie overseeing production.
According to the official description of “Tiana,” she begins a new adventure as the newly crowned princess of Maldonia.
Disney previously announced that it will produce Disney+ series for films such as “Zootopia,” “Big Hero 6,” “Moana,” and “Cars.”
A live-action version of “Moana” is also reportedly in the works. “Moana” tells the story of a girl chosen by the sea who embarks on a fateful adventure with the legendary hero Maui to save the cursed island of Motunui. The live-action film is set to be released in North America in June 2025.
