Jungkook of the group BTS has claimed the 5th spot on the U.S. Billboard’s main singles chart, Hot 100, with the title track from his solo album released on March 3rd.
Consequently, Jungkook has landed a total of six songs on the Hot 100 as a solo artist, the highest number among K-pop solo artists.
On March 13th (local time), Billboard announced on its official website that “Standing Next to You” had reached 5th place, following Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer,” Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red,” Taylor Swift’s “Is It Over Now?,” and SZA’s “Snooze.”
Billboard highlighted this as “Jungkook’s third solo Top 10 record” and mentioned that “the song took first place in digital song sales.”
“Standing Next to You” is the title track of Jungkook’s solo album Golden, a retro-punk song showcasing his rhythmic vocals.
A rich brass performance, percussion sound, and powerful singing characterize the song. It was produced by Andrew Watt and Circuit, who also worked on Jungkook’s hit song “Seven.”
The Hot 100 is a chart that ranks songs based on U.S. streaming data, radio broadcast scores (airplay), and sales data, making it the most significant among Billboard’s sub-charts.
“Standing Next to You” recorded 106 million streams, 400,000 radio broadcast scores, and 99,000 physical and digital single sales.
The song also topped the Billboard Charts Global 200 and Global (excluding the U.S.).
Previously, in July, Jungkook enjoyed global popularity with “Seven,” which topped the Hot 100, and “3D” entered the chart at 5th place in October.
In addition to these, a total of six songs, including “Stay Alive” (95th place) from the OST of HYBE’s original story 7FATES: CHAKHO produced by Suga, “Left and Right” (22nd place) in collaboration with Charlie Puth, and “TOO MUCH” (44th place) in collaboration with The Kid LAROI have made it to the ‘Hot 100’.
This is a new record for the most songs by a K-pop solo artist on the Hot 100, and Jungkook is the only K-pop solo artist with three songs in the top 10 of this chart.
Jungkook’s solo album Golden recorded sales of 212,000 album units, entering Billboard’s main album chart Billboard 200 at 2nd place. Golden includes 11 tracks, including “Standing Next to You,” “Seven,” and “3D.”
