BTS’s Jung Kook has done it again. With his solo album Golden, he has sold 2.5 million copies, carving a new history in the Korean music market. With such an achievement, he can be aptly called a “record man.”
Jung Kook’s solo album Golden has sold 2,501,158 copies from its release date on the 3rd to the 17th, according to Hanteo Chart. As a result, for the first time since the 2010 Hanteo Chart reorganization, a solo album has sold more than 2.5 million copies.
Golden sold 2 million copies within 5 hours of its release, heading straight to double million-seller status and setting a new record for the highest first-day sales among Korean solo albums with 2,147,389 copies sold on its release. It also set a record for the highest initial sales of a K-pop solo artist, with 2,438,483 copies.
Furthermore, Golden recorded 212,000 sales, reaching 2nd place on the Billboard Main Album Chart Billboard 200. This follows the record of Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s version), which topped the chart for two consecutive weeks. In addition to Billboard, it also proved its global music power by achieving 1st place on the iTunes album charts in the eight largest music markets known worldwide: the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, France, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, and Germany.
