The Boy and the Heron, directed by Hayao Miyazaki, will be released on Netflix.

On March 21, KST, Yahoo Japan reported that Netflix announced extending its partnership with film distributor GKIDS.

Netflix revealed plans to release Studio Ghibli’s works globally, excluding Japan and the U.S., and confirmed the future release of Hayao Miyazaki’s latest work, The Boy and the Heron.

According to the report, 22 Studio Ghibli films, including Princess Mononoke and My Neighbor Totoro, are set to be unveiled on Netflix. Miyazaki’s new film, The Boy and the Heron, is also pending release and is expected to be available in the second half of 2024.

On their official animation social media channels, Netflix has announced the arrival of Hayao Miyazaki’s critically acclaimed fantasy adventure, The Boy and the Heron, accompanied by four captivating stills from the film. Teasing the arrival of an “Oscar-winning fantasy adventure,” Netflix has successfully heightened anticipation for this Studio Ghibli masterpiece.

Legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki returns from his brief retirement with The Boy and the Heron, a feature-length film he wrote, directed, and created for Studio Ghibli. Seven years in the making, this highly anticipated film follows The Wind Rises as Miyazaki’s latest masterpiece.
