Park Ji Hwan’s Look in ‘The Roundup’ Sparks Hilarious Fashion Debate

TV Report Views

Actor Park Ji Hwan, who played Jang Yi Soo in the movie The Roundup: Punishment, caused a lot of laughter by appearing in clothing similar to actress Kim Go Eun’s.

The release of six character stills for Jang Yi Soo (Park Ji Hwan) in The Roundup: Punishment on March 27 sparked a funny online debate. Fans couldn’t help but notice a striking resemblance between Jang Yi Soo’s outfit and the one worn by Kim Go Eun’s character, Hwarim, in Exhuma. They questioned whether there was a wardrobe malfunction across film universes or a hilarious case of borrowing across movie franchises.

In the released stills, Jang Yi Soo drew attention with his maroon luxury leather jacket and long hairstyle. His flustered appearance in a red leather jacket being restrained by the police was parodied in SNL Korea, delivering a strong impression.

Upon the release of the photos, there was a flood of reactions among viewers online that Jang Yi Soo’s outfit was similar to that of Hwarim (played by Kim Go Eun) from the ten-million-viewer movie Exhuma. The clothes Jang Yi Soo is wearing are strikingly similar to Hwarim’s trademark outfit.

This led to amusing reactions on social media and online communities such as “Is this a movie? Isn’t it a still cut from SNL?”, “Hwarim reincarnated as a gangster”, “Jang Yi Soo stole Hwarim’s clothes”, and “Hwarim’s face has changed a lot”.

Even his long black hair boasted a high synchronization rate with Hwarim from Exhuma, prompting jokes among viewers like “This is plagiarism. ‘Exhuma’ has no words even if ‘The Roundup: Punishment’ is sued,” and “Now whenever I see Hwarim’s face, I think of Jang Yi Soo, and it drives me crazy.”

Meanwhile, “The Roundup: Punishment” is set to depict a crime-busting operation in which Jang Yi Soo (played by Park Ji Hwan) returns to face the villain Baek Chang Ki (played by Kim Mu Yeol), a special forces mercenary running a large-scale online illegal gambling organization. The genius IT CEO Jang Dong Chul (played by Lee Dong Hwi) teams up with Kwangsoo’s team and the cyber team.

Jang Yi Soo, who first appeared as the head of the Lee Soo faction in the first series of “The Roundup,” despite being a villain, has received a lot of love from the public for his funny moments.
