Actress Liu Yan, once hailed as one of the “Four Beauties of China,” confessed to being body-shamed by male celebrities and expressed discomfort.
On April 19, China Daily reported that Liu Yan had opened up about being ridiculed about her figure by some male celebrities in the past.
Recently appearing on the talk show Innocent Time, Liu Yan said, “There were many male celebrities who thought it was okay to tease me like actor Dapeng. Because I was close with Dapeng, it was fine,” but she added, “However, it is uncomfortable when unfamiliar male celebrities laugh at my figure,” expressing her honest feelings.
Liu Yan revealed, “A few male celebrities filming with me kept mocking my figure. During a break, I went to the male celebrity and said, ‘It’s awkward to make jokes about my figure during the broadcast. Please stop.’ But the male celebrity replied, ‘I thought you wanted this kind of attention.’ I watched this person for several years, and he didn’t respect any women, including me,” criticizing the rude behavior of the male celebrity.
Liu Yan, who used to be a nurse, expressed pride in her previous career, saying, “Instead of dating at a blooming age, I shared life and death with patients.” Recognized for her stunning figure, she said, “I know how to reveal a woman’s sexiness. I don’t think it’s wrong to wear sexy clothes.”
Meanwhile, Liu Yan quit nursing and started working as an announcer at a broadcasting station in 2000. She then gained recognition by hosting several programs.
Liu Yan, who was actively working, debuted as an actress in 2007. She received a lot of love by appearing in numerous works. Liu Yan was called one of the “Four Beauties,” along with singer Song Zuying, actress Chen Shu, and actress Fan Bingbing.
