Taiwanese singer Angela Chang, who managed to perform flawlessly despite suffering from acute gastroenteritis, is now dealing with an absurd rumor.
On May 3, China Daily reported that there were suspicions that Chang had pooped on stage while performing for fans despite her acute gastroenteritis.
Chang performed at the Time Concert in Jiangsu, China, on April 29. Despite being ill with acute gastroenteritis, she bravely completed her performance.
Amid the cheers for her excellent performance, social media users speculated that Chang had an accident on stage.
The suspicion about Chang’s “accident” was raised by a famous Chinese entertainment blogger, Wild Fried Sister (野生炸姐), on Weibo, who has 1.91 million fans. One user who claimed to have been at the scene said, “As soon as Angela got on stage, it smelled bad,” adding, “I was at a loss because I was sitting close to the stage.” Another user added, “She had a poop accident on stage. The audience sitting in the front rows almost died from the smell.”
On May 1, Chang’s management agency posted a picture of Chang in the hospital on Weibo. The agency said, “We apologize for the discomfort. Chang received treatment as soon as she came off stage, and she’s doing well,” adding that she is recovering. Neither Chang nor the agency have commented on the bowel movement suspicion.
Chang’s fans are furious about the suspicion, saying, “Even if she had an accident, it’s something to be pitied or praised for, not scorned.”
Angela Chang debuted as the lead in the 2002 drama My MVP Valentine. She had hoped to be a singer rather than an actor and switched to singing, releasing several albums.
