From National Treasure to National Disgrace: The Fall of Chinese Actor Gao Yalin

TV Report Views

Chinese actor Gao Yalin’s wife caused a stir by bringing his wrongdoings to light.

On May 8, Gao’s wife, Wei Jia, exposed his domestic violence and infidelity via her social media. She stated, “Gao had an affair with Xu Zijun, a female actress 26 years his junior, and frequently transferred money to her. He also assaulted me while I was pregnant. He ignored the fact that I was five months pregnant and choked me, slapped me, and committed acts of violence on several occasions. At one point, my hand was broken, and I was beaten to the point where I couldn’t move,” she revealed.

Wei added, “I didn’t fight back for the sake of the child in my womb. However, he hit me even harder, and I could only gasp for air.” She continued, “I was scared he would threaten to kill everyone if I exposed him. I will gradually release evidence of domestic violence.”

She also shared a screenshot of a conversation between Gao and Xu in her expose. She also shared evidence photos of multiple money transfers to Xu, the highest amount being 3,888 yuan (approximately $605).

Gao was known as the “Nation’s Dad” among fans for his role as Xia Donghai in the Beijing BTV drama Home with Kids which aired from 2005 to 2007. However, he has been facing severe criticism since Wei’s expose.

Gao married writer and actress Xi Wei in February 2008. His notable works include In the Name of People, Love That Never Disappeared, My Youth and I, Under the Microscope, and Home with Kids.
