Currently serving in the military, BTS Jungkook was voted the Most Popular Idol in Japan.
In a poll conducted by the participatory mobile idol fandom app IDOL CHAMP, Jungkook secured the top spot with 39.07% of the votes, earning the title of Most Popular Idol in Japan.
IDOL CHAMP conducted a global project poll from May 14 to 28 on the topic “Who is the Most Popular Idol in Japan?” Following Jungkook in first place, N.SSign’s Kazuta (18.99%), SHINee’s Taemin (10.77%), NiziU’s Mako (9.37%), and TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s Beomgyu (5.51%) made the list.
With a significant percentage difference from n.SSign’s Kazuta, who ranked second, Jungkook proved his overwhelming popularity.
Previously, Jungkook topped the list of most searched K-pop males on YouTube in Japan in 2024. 300,000 Japanese people chose Jungkook as the Face of 2023, proving his immense popularity as the only K-pop solo artist in the ranks.
Jungkook has been sweeping major Japanese charts with his solo activities. His solo single “Seven” has achieved over 100 million cumulative streams, earning a Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). He also won the Song of the Year by Download award at the 38th Japan Gold Disc Award, drawing attention by securing the trophy for the second consecutive year.
Furthermore, Jungkook’s first solo album, GOLDEN, debuted at number one on the Billboard Japan Hot Albums and Download Albums charts, causing a sensation. Upon release, it also topped the Oricon Daily Album Chart with sales of 205,961 copies.
Jungkook enlisted in the military last December alongside fellow member Jimin at the 5th Infantry Division recruit training center in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province. He is expected to be discharged on June 11, 2025.
