BTS member Jin held a “free hug” event at the 2024 Festa while Compose Coffee, a coffee company with V as their brand ambassador, gained attention by giving free drinks to BTS fans who attended the event.
The 2024 Festa, hereinafter called Festa, took place at the Jamsil Sports Complex in Seoul on June 13 to celebrate BTS’s 11th anniversary. Compose Coffee set up a separate booth to provide popular drinks, including iced Americanos to ARMY, the BTS fandom.
The brand shared on its social media, “If you’re visiting the BTS FESTA on June 13, come visit our Compose Coffee coffee truck and booth. Please receive our small Compose gift and have a nice day!”
Fans who verified their BTS fan club membership were able to enjoy cold coffee beverages, including iced Americanos at the Compose Coffee booth. Thanks to ARMY’s enthusiastic support, the booth closed earlier than expected.
During the first part of Festa, Jin gave 1,000 ARMYs free hugs.
During a live broadcast the day before, Jin shared, “I wanted to do a free hug event. The agency said it could be dangerous, so I will be hugging the fans who are selected. This idea started from the desire to hug ARMY fans who waited for me 1 year and 6 months while I served my country,” showing his extraordinary love for his fans.
Jin joined the military on December 13, 2022, and was discharged on June 12. Jin reportedly proposed the free hug event himself to meet with fans.
Contrary to Jin’s intentions, Big Hit Music added a condition to purchase an album to enter into the free hug event, which caused some complaints. The agency later revised the requirements to enter.
V enlisted in the Army’s 2nd Corps Military Police Special Mission Unit last December and is expected to be discharged on June 10, 2025. Several BTS members, including V, are expected to be discharged in 2025.
