In the YouTube video titled “MC Daesung Nasty Jay Park | Jipdaesung ep. 15,” Daesung and Jay Park catch up and reveal that Jay Park almost became a member of BIGBANG.
Jay Park appeared as a guest on Daesung’s YouTube channel. The conversation started with Jay Park asking Daesung his favorite BIG BANG song, and he responded with “Last Dance.”
Jay Park revealed that his favorite songs were “Bad Boy” and “This Love.” Daesung was surprised by this, noting that “This Love” was a track from their debut album, released when they were not famous.
Jay Park, who had yet to debut in 2006, recalled that he thought BIG BANG was cool and wanted to do something similar. “Not many groups could naturally pull off R&B and hip-hop with that style at the time. I drew much inspiration from BIG BANG and was always a fan,” Jay Park shared.
Daesung then asked, “I heard you were originally supposed to be a member of BIG BANG.” The production team clarified, “CEO Yang Hyun Suk mentioned it on ‘K-Pop Star.'”
Jay Park exclaimed, “We almost would have been in the same group.” Daesung jokingly replied, “Or, I might not have had a spot… So thank you,” which caused everyone to laugh.
When asked if there was any interaction with YG during his time as a JYP trainee, Jay Park reminisced, “I went to the YG building and sang and danced in front of the executives with G-Dragon and Taeyang.”
Daesung recounted, “Trainees like me who weren’t called up from downstairs were cheering, saying, ‘They’re battling up there right now.’ A JYP trainee came and performed with G-Dragon and Youngbae.” Both he and Jay Park laughed while reminiscing about those times.
Jay Park described the battle: “I just freestyled and breakdanced to a Musiq Soulchild song. Taeyang sang Usher’s ‘U Got It Bad.’ It was a unique experience and a lot of fun. Now it’s just a legendary tale.”
When Daesung asked how Jay Park looked as a trainee, Jay Park shared, “To describe my style back then, I had spiky hair and wore a T-shirt that came down to my knees.”
