Interest in the late Lee Sun Kyun’s final film is growing. Recent releases of trailers and stills for Land of Happiness have only heightened attention towards the late actor.

With each new photo and video release, Lee Sun Kyun’s final film, Land of Happiness, continues to generate excitement. Director Choo Chang Min’s behind-the-scenes stories also draw significant interest.

In a recent interview, Choo noted, “I saw another side to Lee Sun Kyun that intrigued me. I wanted to cast him differently from his usual roles; thinking he would shine even more by showing a side, people had never seen before.”

“When I saw the photo of Colonel Park Heung Joo, I was inspired. I aimed to replicate his appearance through makeup and hairstyle while focusing on the performance. Ultimately, I believe we achieved something truly remarkable,” he added.

Choo also revealed that, despite the tragic news about Lee Sun Kyun, he did not make significant changes to the film during editing. However, he spent considerable time reflecting on the line “Be well” during the final sound adjustments.

He admitted, “I wrestled with keeping or removing the line. After consulting with many people in the mixing room, the consensus was to keep it. However, after the screening, I regretted not making it louder and wished I had been bolder.”

Meanwhile, Land of Happiness is set on October 26, 1979, and tells the story of Park Tae Joo (played by Lee Sun Kyun), who becomes entangled in a presidential assassination case, and his lawyer Jung In Ho (played by Jo Jung Suk), who takes on one of South Korea’s most infamous political trials.

Before the film’s release, Lee Sun Kyun made a tragic decision, which has led to the film being discussed widely as his final work.
