Jung Hae In was unaware of Jeong So Min’s secret: three years ago, she was diagnosed with stomach cancer in America., undergoing a gastrectomy and chemotherapy.

In the recent episode of tvN’s Love Next Door, tensions between two men involving Seok Ryu (played by Jung So Min) were depicted with a focus on events from three years ago.

During this episode, Seung Hyo (played by Jung Hae In) showed concern when Seok Ryu injured her hand while practicing cooking, saying, “I can’t exactly tell you not to do it.”

Seok Ryu responded, “Who are you to tell me what to do?” Seung Hyo replied honestly, “Do you think I don’t know that? Since I was young, it’s been my duty to look after you. I worry about you getting into trouble or meeting someone who might hurt you. I’ve seen your tears and tough times, which is why I’m concerned.”

He added, “I wonder if you’re eating on time and if good people surround you. That’s just how I feel. Take some time to reflect on your feelings. I know you’ve just broken up, and it’s confusing right now. So, take your time to respond. I’ve given my answer first, but you can answer later.”

On that day, Seok Ryu’s ex-boyfriend Hyun Jun (played by Han Jun Woo) told Mi Sook that he still has feelings for Seok Ryu. While Mi Sook felt relieved by this confession, Geun Sik (played by Jo Han Cheol) reacted with anger, demanding, “Did that guy say all that? Did you just sit there and listen?”

When Mi Sook supported Seok Ryu’s move to the U.S., Geun Sik retorted, “Are you obsessed with America? Are you treating your daughter like a commodity? Don’t you care about Seok Ryu’s feelings at all?”

Mi Sook responded, “Yes, I’m materialistic. I enjoy receiving bags and shoes from American premium outlets. I tried to brag about having a lawyer son-in-law, but it turned out to be a disaster, and now I’m in tears. Is that clear? I don’t want my daughter to live a life like mine, with her wings clipped. I don’t want her to live a shabby, miserable life.”

Meanwhile, Seok Ryu felt betrayed by Mi Sook and Geun Sik, who were against her pursuing a career in cooking. Seok Ryu expressed her frustration: “I can’t tolerate even a single mistake. Why can’t I live doing what I want?” Geun Sik responded, “You can do whatever you want, but cooking is off-limits. It might seem fun now; you might imagine happy customers enjoying the food in a beautiful restaurant. But your father thought the same way and found out it didn’t work. It won’t work for you either.”

Soothing the distressed Seok Ryu fell to Seung Hyo. Seeing her upset over losing her kitchen space for practice, Seung Hyo kindly offered, “You can use our company’s kitchen.”

Later, Seung Hyo confronted Hyun Jun, who had visited the Atelier Inn, pretending to be a client. Seung Hyo said, “Stop showing up unannounced. You and Seok Ryu are done.” Despite Hyun Jun’s insistence that their relationship wasn’t over, Seung Hyo dismissed him, stating, “I only believe Seok Ryu’s side of the story.”

At the end of the episode, Seok Ryu was suddenly hospitalized due to severe abdominal pain. It was revealed that she had undergone a gastrectomy for stomach cancer in the U.S. three years ago, hinting at further turmoil to come.
