Singer IU marked her debut anniversary by donating 225 million won (approximately $170,000), further solidifying her reputation as a true guardian angel.
Her agency, EDAM Entertainment, announced that IU donated the funds under the name IUana, a blend of her stage name and her official fan club name, to various organizations, including the Korean Association for Children with Rare Diseases, Milk Delivery for the Elderly, Hansarang Village, and Hansarang Infant Home.
In appreciation of the love and support she has received from her fans, IU has made it a tradition to engage in charitable activities every year on her debut anniversary, and this year was no exception. The donations will be used for various purposes, including medical expenses, educational support for children with rare and incurable diseases, psychological counseling, and medical supplies. The funds will also assist with milk deliveries and home visits to combat loneliness among elderly individuals living alone, fund the replacement of outdated elevators in facilities for the severely disabled, improve living conditions in infant homes, and help cover rehabilitation therapy costs.
Beyond her debut anniversary, IU actively participates in charitable initiatives throughout the year, including on Children’s Day, during year-end celebrations, and on her birthday. Through her ongoing donations, she promotes a culture of giving and encourages public participation, positively influencing society and highlighting the importance of mutual support.
Expressing her gratitude, IU shared through her agency, “Thanks to Uaena, I have developed a heart filled with love and strong values. I’m happy to do something meaningful every year under the name IUana. I hope this small gesture becomes a good gift for those who receive it. I’m always grateful to Uaena for planting love in my heart. Let’s make this last for a long time together.”
Looking ahead, IU is set to perform at the 2024 IU HERE WORLD TOUR CONCERT ENCORE: THE WINNING at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on the 21st and 22nd. Her estimated net worth is 52.7 billion won (approximately $3.9 million), and her total donations have exceeded 5 billion won (about $3.7 million). IU has drawn attention to sharing that she feels no need for additional wealth after achieving significant financial success by age 23.
