NewJeans member Hanni and Ador CEO Kim Joo Young have been summoned as witnesses for an upcoming audit by the National Assembly. On Monday, the Environment and Labor Committee (ELC) approved a motion requiring Hanni to appear as a reference and Kim Joo Young, the Chief Human Resources Officer of HYBE, to testify. They will be questioned about allegations of workplace harassment.
NewJeans members held an emergency livestream on September 11th, where they alleged harassment issues within the company. Hanni claimed another group’s manager instructed him to “ignore Hanni” while inside the HYBE building. He stated, “I could hear and see everything, yet they told me to be ignored. I still can’t understand why I had to go through that; it’s truly absurd.”
Minji added, “I was shocked. How can a team’s manager tell a team member to ‘ignore Hanni’? They didn’t even acknowledge their mistake, let alone apologize.” She expressed concern about the possibility of similar incidents occurring in the future and whether she would face subtle ostracism.
In response to the news about Hani, some NewJeans fans filed complaints with the South Korean Ministry of Employment and Labor. During a livestream, the group called on HYBE to reinstate former CEO Min Hee Jin as head of ADOR by September 25th. In response, ADOR stated, “After discussions, we are currently unable to accept the request for her return to the CEO position.”
