The drama Love Next Door, featuring the new journey of soon-to-be couple Jung Hae In and Jung So Min, concluded with a heartwarming happy ending. The final episode achieved a peak viewership rating of 10.7%, averaging 9.5% in the Seoul metropolitan area. Nationwide, it peaked at 9.5% and averaged 8.5%, according to Nielsen Korea, marking the show’s highest ratings to date.
In the final episode, Seung Hyo (played by Jung Hae In) and Seok Ryu (played by Jung So Min) enjoyed a family meal before stealing some private moments together. As they embraced, Dong Jin (played by Lee Seung Hyup) burst in, exclaiming, “Oh no, my eyes! Mom, Dad! They’re doing something weird in there!” Seok Ryu shot back, “It’s not weird! We have the family’s blessing now, so leave us alone!”
Dong Jin urged Seung Hyo, “Dude, think this over again. This is totally bizarre. You’re even borrowing my razor!” However, Seung Hyo dismissed him, saying, “I don’t care. Whether Seok Ryu is a little quirky or not doesn’t matter to me,” leaving Dong Jin in disbelief.
Earlier in the series, Geun Sik (played by Jo Han Chul) closed the tteokbokki shop he had run for years. Seung Hyo transformed the space into a kitchen just for Seok Ryu. Touched by his gesture, Seung Hyo said, “I couldn’t compromise on even the smallest details. This is a collaboration between the two men who love Bae Seok Ryu the most. Now, create your signature dishes here and bring comfort and healing to everyone.”
Seok Ryu beamed, exclaiming, “This is incredible! You’ve transformed my room, healed my heart, and even renovated the shop!” Seung Hyo responded, “I’m just getting started. I’ll design every space you’ll occupy from here on out.”
As Seok Ryu used her past experiences to develop the Rainbow Kitchen app, she remarked, “A coding chef? I bet no one ever imagined that!” Seok Ryu replied, “I feel proud. It seems my past efforts weren’t in vain.”
The couple’s wedding preparations went smoothly. As Seok Ryu tried on her wedding dress, Seung Hyo was left speechless, saying, “I can’t think of anything to say. You look so beautiful.” He added, “I’ll buy you that dress. Wear it all the time—when you’re grocery shopping or even when you travel to the States,” showcasing his affectionate side.
However, this bliss was short-lived. Seok Ryu suddenly suggested postponing their wedding, wanting to continue her long-distance relationship with Mo Um (played by Kim Ji Eun) while working abroad. Seung Hyo reluctantly agreed to her proposal.
Seung Hyo and Seok Ryu playfully bickered while searching for a new home. At one point, Seung Hyo declared, “I’ll be by your side whether we’re sad or angry. We need to add one more rule when we fight: no separate rooms or beds.” This heartfelt moment beautifully capped off Love Next Door, bringing the series to a satisfying conclusion.
