Veteran actor Lee Soon Jae has canceled his theater schedule due to health issues. Park Company, the production team behind the play Waiting for Godot, announced yesterday through its official channels that Lee Soon Jae would not be performing that day due to health reasons.
The production company stated, “Lee Soon Jae expressed a strong desire to fulfill his lifelong commitment to keeping promises to the audience and wanted to perform. However, he ultimately decided to cancel the show based on a strong recommendation from his doctor that he needs rest.”
A representative from Lee Soon Jae’s team reassured the public in an interview with Maeil Business Star Today, saying, “He isn’t facing any serious health issues; it’s simply a case of overwork. Given his age, he overexerted himself by continuing performances, and the doctor advised him to take some time off. He is currently receiving nutritional support and resting, so concern is unnecessary.”
Lee Soon Jae plays Esther, an experienced actor nearing 90, in Waiting for Godot. Due to his health issues, the lecture titled 70 Years of Acting Philosophy, scheduled for tomorrow, has also been postponed indefinitely. This lecture is an event where Lee Soon Jae shares his insights on the attitudes and acting philosophy required for aspiring young actors.
The Korea Arts and Culture Education Service, the event organizer, stated, “We plan to hold the event once Lee Soon Jae has recovered his health.”
Meanwhile, Lee Soon Jae made his entertainment debut in 1956 with the drama I Want to be a Human, Too. He has had an illustrious career, appearing in various works such as the films Stand by Me, Roman, and Good Morning, as well as dramas like Men of the Bath House, I Only Know Love, The Legendary Doctor Hur Jun, Immortal Admiral Yi Sun Sin, High Kick!, High Kick Through the Roof, Again My Life, Money Flower, and The King Doctor. He is currently starring in the KBS2 drama Dog Knows Everything.
