Singer Jessi is facing backlash following a fan assault incident, as the victim expressed, “I did not feel any sincerity in Jessi’s apology.”
In an interview aired yesterday on the program Crime Chief, the victim recounted being assaulted by Jessi’s entourage while trying to request an autograph.
The incident, which occurred in Apgujeong, Seoul, on September 29, came to public attention through a report on Crime Chief. The victim stated, “(Jessi) doesn’t seem to show much remorse, and I think her use of the term moral responsibility lacks sincerity.”
Despite witnessing the assault, Jessi reportedly left the scene without intervening, leading to further controversy surrounding her actions.
In response, Jessi’s team issued a statement, “I was caught off guard by the sudden situation and was unable to consider the fans. Regardless of the circumstances properly, I feel a moral responsibility for the unexpected harm caused,” and offered an apology. However, the victim’s mother expressed skepticism, stating, “I saw the apology, but it felt more like self-justification.”
Jessi described the assailant as “someone I saw for the first time that day,” which prompted criticism from the victim’s mother. She argued, “That doesn’t make sense. My child said the assailant was right next to her. After reviewing the CCTV footage, Jessi tried to grab the assailant immediately but missed. After that, she just stood by while the assault happened. To claim she didn’t know him and that he just suddenly appeared is infuriating.”
The victim also alleged that Koala, a producer in Jessi’s entourage, participated in the assault. He recounted, “Initially, Koala struck me in the stomach twice, and despite my attempts to dodge, he continued to hit my head.”
Producer Koala, known for his work on Jessi’s albums, including “What Type of X” and “Nunu Nanna,” is reportedly facing allegations related to gang involvement, according to the victim.
In a subsequent interview with Crime Chief, Jessi’s agency clarified, “Jessi and Koala have only collaborated on a few music projects, and Jessi has no connections to any gangs. We are also unaware of any allegations regarding Koala’s gang involvement.”
