BTS’ J-Hope is set to return from military service today, completing his 1 year and 6 months of mandatory duty. His agency, BIGHIT MUSIC, announced on Monday that his discharge day coincides with the return of many other soldiers, stating, “There will be no special events on the day of his return.”
To ensure safety and prevent overcrowding, the agency requested that fans refrain from visiting the site of J-Hope’s unit. They expressed gratitude for his overwhelming support and love during his service. J-Hope enlisted in April last year at the 36th Infantry Division in Wonju, South Korea. After completing five weeks of basic military training, he was appointed an instructor at the division’s training center for the remainder of his service.
During his military tenure, J-Hope exemplified excellence, reflecting the qualities of a world-class artist. In June, he was awarded the Grand Prize at the Strong Warrior Army! Presentation Contest, which was held at the War Memorial of Korea in Yongsan, Seoul. At the event, he stated, “The blood, sweat, and tears shed on stage, along with my voice, contribute significantly to the cultural development of South Korea.” He added, “Now, as Corporal Jung Ho Seok, rather than as BTS’s J-Hope, I feel a tremendous pride in serving as a soldier in my country.”
J-Hope was also recognized as an elite soldier after exceeding the standards in military tests, including physical fitness, shooting, and first aid. He served as a squad leader and earned the green shoulder insignia, a distinction awarded to those who demonstrate exceptional performance and leadership among their peers.
J-Hope actively fulfilled his duties throughout his service and dedicated himself entirely to each task. As his discharge approaches, anticipation is high for the diverse activities he plans to pursue in the future.
Meanwhile, Jin was the first member of BTS to be discharged last June. Following J-Hope, RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook are scheduled to complete their military service in June 2025. Suga will conclude his duty as a social service worker for two years and two months, marking the final discharge for BTS and allowing the group to reunite in full.
