Actress Kim Sae Ron, previously embroiled in controversy due to a DUI incident, is returning to the entertainment industry. According to a report by Hankookilbo on Monday, Kim was spotted filming a movie near Tapgol Park in Jongno, Seoul. She was seen with long hair and wearing a white dress, reportedly participating in the shoot with a bright smile.
Reports indicate that Kim Sae Ron has been cast in a new low-budget musical film directed by Shin Jai Ho. Shin made his mark in the film industry as the writer of the movie Ditto, which starred Yoo Ji Tae and Kim Ha Neul. He made his directorial debut in 2004 with 100 Days With Mr. Arrogant and has since directed movies like Days of Wrath, Duel: Final Round, Untouchable Lawman, and In Dreams.
In response to inquiries, a production representative stated, “It’s true that Kim Sae Ron will be participating, but we can’t disclose specific details at this time.”
Kim Sae Ron gained significant popularity as a child actress in movies like A Brand New Life and The Man from Nowhere and has remained active in both TV series and films.
However, in 2022, Kim Sae Ron was involved in a DUI accident in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam, where she crashed into guardrails, trees, and a transformer, resulting in a fine of 20 million won (approximately $14,500). The incident temporarily disrupted electricity to nearby businesses and streetlights, causing inconvenience for residents. After refusing a breathalyzer test, she requested a blood test, which revealed a blood alcohol concentration of about 0.2%—a level that results in license suspension.
Following this incident, Kim appeared in the Netflix series Bloodhounds last year, but most of her scenes were edited out. She also attempted to return to the stage with the play Dongchimi in May but faced significant negative public sentiment, ultimately stepping down for health reasons.
She has faced criticism for impulsive actions, such as posting and quickly deleting a photo with actor Kim Soo Hyun and sharing a photo of herself working part-time at a café, which led to allegations of staging a self-promotion stunt.
