Actor Gang Dong Won shared intriguing behind-the-scenes stories from the Netflix film Uprising. A commentary video for Uprising was released on Tuesday on Netflix’s official channel.

Set during the turbulent era of the Imjin War, Uprising follows Jong Ryeo (played by Park Jeong Min), the son of Joseon’s most esteemed military family, and his servant Cheon Yeong (played by Gang Dong Won). As the story unfolds, the two characters find themselves on opposing sides, confronting military officials from the royal court and resistance fighters. The film has been available for Netflix streaming since October 11.

Reflecting on the scene where Jong Ryeo stabs Cheon Yeong’s hand, Gang Dong Won shared, “I approached the scene with a sense of resentment, looking at Jong Ryeo and thinking, ‘How could you do this to me?'”

He added, “I believed that channeling as much energy as possible in this moment would help the story unfold effectively. Although I typically don’t enjoy overly aggressive acting, I tried to immerse myself in the performance fully.”

In response, Park Jeong Min remarked, “I had several concerns about this scene after reading the script.” He elaborated, “While feelings of affection and kindness come from the heart, a person’s inherent nature cannot be completely changed. As a result, Jong Ryeo would likely feel even more betrayed, leading me to believe that a dog that bites its owner should be put down.” He shared his interpretation of his character, to which Gang Dong Won playfully added, “Of course, the aristocrat sees things differently. I saw Cheon Yeong treating Jong Ryeo as a friend because of my common background.”

On that day, Gang Dong Won expressed his enthusiasm for the reunion scene between the adversaries Cheon Yeong and Jong Ryeo, stating, “I love this scene. It contains all my favorite lines.” He noted, “It wasn’t easy to act because I had to balance both emotion and action.”

After watching the video, Cha Seung Won commented, “That action is different. While earlier action scenes showcased a lot of weaponry, this one conveys much more emotion.”
