Controversy has erupted surrounding a fashion brand for which SEVENTEEN members Jeonghan and The8 serve as ambassadors.
According to reports on Wednesday, the brand announced that it would invite 50 lucky winners to an event featuring Jeonghan and The8, prompting fans to purchase its products. Some fans reportedly spent over 63 million won (approximately $45,670) in hopes of attending.
The event was supposed to select 50 winners from consumers who purchased between September 3 and 10. However, issues arose when additional winners from China were admitted, contrary to the initial announcement. Furthermore, the planned photo wall event did not occur, and a special video was released without prior notice, leaving fans frustrated and upset.
The most significant grievance among fans was the short duration of the event. While idols typically spend at least 30 minutes at such events, fans claim that Jeonghan and The8 stayed for less than 10 minutes in this instance. When affected fans voiced their concerns to the company, it indicated that compensation would be offered but did not provide specific details. SEVENTEEN fans expressed their anger, feeling the group’s name had been exploited.
In more positive news, Oricon Japan reported that SEVENTEEN’s 12th mini album has topped the Oricon Weekly Album Chart.
SEVENTEEN is scheduled to hold concerts at various venues, including Aichi Bank Dome in Nagoya on November 29-30, Tokyo Dome on December 4-5, Kyocera Dome Osaka on December 12 and 14-15, and Fukuoka PayPay Dome on December 19 and 21-22.
