Chef Choi Hyun Seok shared behind-the-scenes insights about his appearance on the popular cooking competition Culinary Class Wars. On Wednesday, he joined fellow guests Millanoona, Kwon Yul, and Lim Woo Il on MBC’s Radio Star to showcase their engaging chemistry.
Choi recently gained widespread acclaim through Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars, remarked, “After the show aired, I received a surge of offers to appear on various programs. However, I want to focus on cooking, so I only participate in culinary-related shows. I’ve decided to steer clear of purely entertainment-focused projects.”
Regarding his time on Radio Star, Choi said, “When I got the call from the producer, I told them, ‘I’m not here to joke around or be playful anymore.’ They asked me to share my cooking philosophy, so I agreed to come on. I’m here today to discuss my culinary philosophy,” he added with a playful tone.
He continued, “In the past, I was a regular on three TV shows. As a result, my restaurant suffered because I didn’t have time to develop new dishes. More importantly, people who had never tasted my food dismissed me as a show chef simply because I appeared on TV frequently.” This explains his hesitance to participate in more entertainment shows.
Choi also reflected on his participation in Culinary Class Wars, saying, “When I was first approached for the show, I was surprised to learn I wouldn’t be a judge. I asked, ‘Why am I a contestant?’ The producer replied, ‘You look even more impressive as a contestant than as a judge,’ and that really caught my attention.”
He shared, “Even though my wife and those around me advised against it, I decided to participate because I believed I could gain inspiration and motivation by seeing other chefs’ dishes.”
Choi humorously addressed his frenemy relationship with Judge Anh Sung Jae, saying, “Anh Sung Jae is my junior, but I respect him as a chef. When I learned he was a judge, I thought, ‘No one in his judgments will sway him, but this is going to be exhausting for me.'” This comment elicited laughter from the audience.
In the meantime, Triple Star, who appeared alongside Choi on Culinary Class Wars, faces intense backlash due to revelations from his ex-wife and former girlfriend. They have accused him of being involved in a double relationship. His ex-wife publicly shared a letter he had given her, which contained shocking claims that he had pressured her into sleeping with another man.
