Kim Nam Gil has raised expectations for The Fiery Priest 2 by highlighting the chemistry among the eccentric characters involved with the drug cartel. In a heartfelt written interview on Monday, the lead actor shared insights about the filming atmosphere and what fans can look forward to in the new season.
When asked about the defining traits of Kim Hae Il in Season 2, Kim Nam Gil humorously replied, “Kim Hae Il’s temper is still as fiery as ever.” He added, “The synergy skyrockets when he teams up with these absolute madcaps—they’re like an army of loose cannons. In Season 1, I sometimes second-guessed my angry outbursts, but in Season 2, we’ve really hit our stride with rock-solid teamwork.” His remarks suggest explosive potential for the New Avengers and their heightened impact.
After reuniting with original cast members Lee Ha Nee and Kim Sung Kyun after a five-year break, Kim Nam Gil said, “It was a whole different ballgame compared to Season 1. We fell right back into our groove without missing a beat—no rehearsals needed.” His enthusiasm has fans buzzing about the legendary chemistry of the trio making a triumphant return.
Kim Nam Gil also praised the newcomers joining Season 2: Sung Jun, Seo Hyun Woo, and Kim Hyeong Seo. “Sung Jun is going to blow everyone away. Who knew such an angelic face could pull off such a devilishly perfect villain? It will be a jaw-dropping twist for viewers,” he predicted. “Seo Hyun Woo has always impressed me with his acting chops and screen presence. He nails the role of Nam Du Heon, the perfectionist villain, to a T.” Regarding Kim Hyeong Seo, Kim Nam Gil noted, “I expected him to have an intense presence because of his on-stage charisma, but off-camera, he’s surprisingly low-key. He seems mild-mannered until the cameras roll—then bam! It’s like we’ve got another wild card in the mix.”
SBS’s The Fiery Priest 2 follows Kim Hae Il (played by Kim Nam Gil), a hot-tempered priest with anger management issues who balances his day job as a clergyman with his role as the boss of the Bellato gang at night. The story takes him to Busan, where he faces off against the country’s top drug cartel in a thrilling investigative drama.
The highly anticipated The Fiery Priest 2 is set to premiere on Friday.
