Lotte Entertainment released character stills of Lee Seung Gi in the upcoming film About Family on Tuesday. The released image showcases his dramatic transformation into a Buddhist monk with a shaved head.

About Family is a heartwarming comedy centered on the owner of a renowned dumpling restaurant, Pyeongmanok (played by Kim Yoon Seok), whose business faces jeopardy when his son, Ham Mun Seok (Lee Seung Gi), becomes a monk. The plot takes a surprising twist when unexpected grandchildren, whom he’s never met, show up, leading to a funny and touching story about unconventional cohabitation and family dynamics.

The film has been gaining attention as the only family comedy released this winter. In addition to Kim Yoon Seok’s standout performance, Lee Seung Gi’s dramatic physical transformation has become a hot topic. The actor’s decision to shave his head for the monk role has earned widespread praise, with audiences admiring his dedication and boldness in embracing the character.

In About Family, Lee Seung Gi portrays Ham Mun Seok, the son of a well-known dumpling restaurant owner in Seoul. Unlike his father, Mun Seok becomes a monk, severing ties with his past. However, his life turns unexpectedly when he becomes embroiled in a shocking scandal. While enjoying popularity as a superstar monk, a live radio broadcast reveals that he has a secret child, sending shockwaves through the nation.

Director Yang Woo Suk shared the behind-the-scenes story of casting Lee Seung Gi for the role of Ham Mun Seok, explaining, “To portray the ideal perfect son character, I needed an actor who was not only smart, handsome, and tall, but also flawless in many other ways. Lee Seung Gi was the first actor to come to mind.”

Reflecting on his decision to take the role, Lee Seung Gi said, “When I heard that the legendary Kim Yoon Seok would be in the cast, there was no hesitation. With such a great script and the chance to work with an actor, I deeply respect, the decision to shave my head was easy.”

Having already impressed audiences with his performances in TV dramas and films such as The Princess and the Matchmaker and Love Forecast, Lee Seung Gi’s role in About Family is expected to elevate his acting career further. With Yang Woo Suk, known for his work on acclaimed films like The Attorney and Steel Rain, at the helm, Lee Seung Gi is set to deliver an even more refined and powerful performance.

About Family is shaping up to be the must-see family comedy of the winter seas. It promises audiences an entertaining and heartfelt experience. Like a perfectly crafted dumpling, the film is expected to offer rich and satisfying entertainment when it hits theaters on December 11.

In related news, it’s been reported that Lee Seung Gi, previously a Christian, has converted to Buddhism, influenced by his wife, Lee Da In, and his mother-in-law, actress Kyeon Mi Ri.
