The Jo Malone London photo call event was canceled due to the emergency martial law South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared the previous day.

According to sources, the Jo Malone London Holiday Pop-up event, scheduled for 5:30 PM on Wednesday, was ultimately canceled.

Initially, the brand had planned to hold a Christmas pop-up event in Seongsu-dong, a trendy neighborhood in Seoul’s Seongdong District, and host a photo call. The event was set to feature high-profile celebrities, including South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun, STAYC’s Sieun, and WJSN’s Yeoreum.

However, after Yoon delivered an emergency address on Tuesday night and declared a state of emergency, the entertainment industry in South Korea was thrown into disarray. Although the state of emergency was lifted early Wednesday morning, the photo call event was ultimately called off.

A spokesperson for Jo Malone London explained the cancellation, stating, “The Jo Malone London Holiday Pop-up photo event scheduled for today has been canceled due to the national state of emergency. After careful consideration of various emergencies and safety concerns. We ask for your understanding and appreciate your patience during this difficult time.”

Meanwhile, Yoon held an emergency address at the Yongsan Presidential Office on Tuesday, declaring, “Through this state of emergency, we will rebuild and protect the free Republic of Korea, which is on the brink of collapse.” He added, “We will decisively eradicate the root causes of the nation’s decline and the anti-state forces that have wreaked havoc until now.”

Shortly after, around 1 AM, the South Korean Cabinet approved the proposal to lift the state of emergency. At 4:40 AM, Yoon officially declared the end of the emergency martial law. However, he urged the National Assembly to “immediately cease the reckless acts that paralyze the functions of the state through repeated impeachment attempts and legislative manipulation.”
