Starship Entertainment, the agency behind the popular K-pop group IVE, has revealed that it is actively pursuing legal action against online trolls targeting its members.
On Thursday, the company provided details on its legal efforts to combat malicious online behavior, including defamation, false rumors, personal attacks, and reputation damage through online posts and comments.
Starship stated, “In September, we engaged a specialized law firm to take strong legal action, filing multiple complaints with the Gangnam Police Station. These cases have now been forwarded to the district prosecutor’s office with recommendations for indictment. We are currently awaiting the results of the criminal proceedings against those involved.”
The agency also mentioned that it is considering expanding its legal efforts to address illegal activities occurring on international social media platforms. “We are looking into criminal complaints and potential cooperation with local law enforcement in other countries to tackle crimes taking place on overseas-based platforms and online communities,” they added.
Starship clearly stated that it has a zero-tolerance policy for such behavior, saying, “Insults, defamation, and spreading false information about our artists are serious criminal offenses. We have already gathered substantial evidence and are committed to pursuing every legal avenue to hold perpetrators accountable—without any possibility of leniency or settlement.”
The company also thanked IVE’s fanbase for their support, stating, “Your vigilance and support have been constructive. We kindly ask for your continued engagement and assistance, and we want to extend our deepest thanks to all of you.”
In addition, Starship filed a lawsuit against a woman in her 30s who ran the Taldeok Camp channel, targeting multiple idols, including Jang Wonyoung. The woman now faces defamation and insult charges under South Korea’s Information and Communications Network laws. Prosecutors have recommended a four-year prison sentence for the defendant.
