Cybertruck Regret? Tesla CEO Elon Musk Voices Concerns About Cybertruck Production

Regretting the Cybertruck
Elon Musk’s shocking statement
Let’s find out why

It’s been about four years since its first reveal. After a long four years, Tesla has finally confirmed the release date for the Cybertruck. With its unprecedented linear design and being Tesla’s first pickup truck, the Cybertruck has garnered significant attention. Now, it won’t be long before consumers get to see this vehicle in person.

However, surprising news has recently surfaced. Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, expressed regret over the upcoming Cybertruck. What exactly happened?

We dug our own grave with the Cybertruck
Musk expresses regret

Several foreign media outlets, including Autoblog, reported that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, said during the third-quarter earnings call on the 18th (local time), “We dug our own grave with the Cybertruck.” He added, “The unique design of the Cybertruck makes it challenging to increase annual production to 250,000 units by 2025”.

This statement refers to the production difficulties of the stainless steel material used in the Cybertruck. He continued, “(The Cybertruck) is one of the special products that has barely come out from the past until now, but the characteristic of such a product is that it is tough to get enough volume and prosper in the market” and “(Regarding the release of the Cybertruck) I want to lower expectations.”

Interpreted as a statement considering Cybertruck’s profit generation and potential future problems

Elon Musk also told Tesla investors and employees present that day, “It is expected to take about 18 months for the Cybertruck to start mass production and generate positive cash flow, and I want to emphasize that there will be tremendous challenges for us during that time”. This means there will be difficulties in generating immediate profits from the Cybertruck, and a certain amount of time is needed.

He added, “As is often the case with new technologies or new programs, especially when creating differentiated and advanced products like the Cybertruck, new problems that need to be solved will continue to rise in proportion to the scale.” Musk’s comments are interpreted as a message that it is time to prepare for big and small problems that will arise in the production of the Cybertruck.

Reactions from cybercitizens

So, how did cybernauts at home and abroad react to Elon Musk’s comments? They responded with comments like “Pioneers always take risks,” “If the CEO regrets it, then what on earth…”, “It’s a good product,” “Somehow, this feels like noise marketing,” and “It’s a vehicle that makes a big splash in various ways.”

Meanwhile, due to Tesla’s stance, the issues with the most recently spotted Cybertruck test car are gaining attention again among cybernauts worldwide. This is because the test car, thanks to its stainless steel characteristics, showed strength against impact but vulnerability to scratches, fine finishes, and everyday pollution. At the time, vehicle contract holders even requested Tesla to provide a public solution.
