In China, a fake doctor who claimed to kill cancer cells by inserting cement under the armpit of a breast cancer patient, leading to the patient’s death, has been arrested by the police.
According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 1st, Ms. Wang was diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer in 2021. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, she was introduced to a self-proclaimed breast cancer specialist who claimed that breast cancer could be cured with traditional Chinese medicine.
Mr. Wei, who runs a tumor research institute in Wuhan, Hebei Province, suggested she could treat breast cancer with traditional medicine.
Wei periodically inserted acupuncture needles and had her take herbal medicine. In addition, Wei inserted cement under the patient’s armpit, claiming it could remove cancer cells. For this treatment, Wang paid a total of 200,000 yuan (approximately $31,000).
However, Wang experienced side effects such as the surgical area breaking down and eventually died in June.
Following this, Wang’s daughter filed a lawsuit against Wei, and the police launched an investigation. The investigation revealed that Wei was a fake doctor who had never studied medicine. Wei had various medical-related certificates, which were purchased online.
