“Israeli military advances to the center of Gaza City”
“Hamas’ top leader is isolated in a bunker”
Israel, which has been escalating its ground war in the Palestinian Gaza Strip since April 27, has officially initiated urban warfare.
According to the Associated Press on May 7 (local time), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a TV speech, “Gaza City is surrounded,” and “We are increasing pressure on the Palestinian armed group Hamas every day, every hour.” He emphasized, “So far, we have killed thousands of terrorists.”
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant also said in a TV speech, “The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have advanced to the center of Gaza City and are tightening the noose,” and “Israeli troops on foot or in armored vehicles and tanks are heading towards a single target: Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip, their infrastructure, commanders, bunkers, and communication facilities.”
He added, “Hamas’ top leader Yahya Sinwar is isolated in a bunker in the Gaza Strip,” and “Sinwar is the mastermind who decided to attack Israeli civilians, women, and children a month ago.”
The fact that Israel, which had not disclosed the locations of its military units even after the expansion of ground operations, mentioned Gaza City, the core area of the Gaza Strip, suggests that it has officially initiated urban warfare.
