Samsung Electronics has announced that its next-generation flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S24 series, set to be unveiled in January next year, will be transformed into the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) smartphone, signaling a market revolution. With features like real-time translation services during calls, user convenience is expected to improve significantly.
According to Samsung Electronics, on the 9th, the Galaxy S24 will be equipped with generative AI, Galaxy On-Device AI, supporting the AI Live Translate Call feature. This feature allows real-time translation during calls without a separate application (app). The user can speak their native language, and the phone will translate the conversation into the other party’s language, even if they do not use a Galaxy AI phone.
On-device AI refers to embedding generative AI functions within the device, allowing for information collection and computation within the device without connecting to an external cloud, resulting in faster processing speed.
Samsung Electronics explained, “In any situation, the call’s content will not be leaked outside the mobile phone, so there are no security issues.”
Samsung Electronics did not disclose the specific model name supporting real-time translation calls. Still, it is reported that this feature will be included in the next-generation flagship smartphone Galaxy S24 series, which could be unveiled as early as January next year.
The translated conversation can be heard as audio and also displayed as text on the smartphone. This type of real-time translation phone is reported to be the first of its kind in the world. Similar services are being developed in Korea using apps, but they utilize external clouds.
The Galaxy S24 series, expected to become Samsung Electronics’ first AI phone, is anticipated to be available in four colors: black, gray, violet, and yellow. In online stores like Samsung.com, three additional colors may also be available: orange, light blue, and light green.
According to rendering images released by IT specialist media PhoneArena, the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra are expected to be released. While the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus don’t seem to have significant design changes compared to their predecessor, the Galaxy S23, the edges and sides of the device are expected to be flatter than previous models.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra model appears to be moving away from the existing edge display towards a flat display. T tipsters like Levebgenes and some foreign media have stated, “The Galaxy S24 Ultra model is likely to adopt a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display and a titanium frame.”
The Galaxy S24 Plus is expected to measure 158.5×75.9×7.75mm. The Galaxy S24 Plus screen is projected to be 6.65 inches, while the Galaxy S24 is expected to be 6.1 inches.
The mobile application processor (AP) of the Galaxy S24 series will apply a slightly modified version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 3rd generation. Samsung Electronics’ own AP, Exynos 2400, is also expected to be included in domestic models.
There is speculation that the Galaxy S24 series may feature a titanium frame similar to the iPhone 15 Pro. Samsung Electronics plans to unveil the Galaxy S24 series in California, USA, in January next year, and the shipment volume is expected to be 35 million units, a 10% increase compared to its predecessor.
Choi Won-jun, Vice President of the MX Business Development Division at Samsung Electronics, said, “Now, mobile AI technology will meaningfully merge with Galaxy to create a new experience that has never been seen before, redefining the role of mobile phones.”
