Security Chiefs Push for U.S.-Japan-South Korea Meeting Within the Year

Jo Tae-Yong, the chief of the National Security Office, called Jake Sullivan, the U.S. National Security Advisor, on the 9th and decided to jointly promote the Trilateral Security Office Meeting of South Korea, the U.S., and Japan. They also agreed to swiftly push for the Korea-U.S. Next Generation Core and Emerging Technology Dialogue that President Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea and President Joe Biden of the U.S. agreed upon during the Korea-U.S. summit in April.

The Presidential National Security Office announced through a press release on the day that Chief Jo and Advisor Sullivan had a consultation over the secure line. The National Security Office stated, “The security chiefs of both countries exchanged opinions on mutual interests such as the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and reaffirmed the importance of cooperation among the three countries following the Camp David Agreement.” They also said, “We decided to strengthen seamless cooperation among the three countries, such as the flawless implementation of follow-up measures.”

The National Security Office said, “The security chiefs of both countries decided to strengthen cooperation ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in San Francisco, USA.” They added, “Chief Jo wished Advisor Sullivan a successful hosting of the APEC summit.”
