As the United States and China are coordinating a summit meeting on the occasion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in San Francisco on the 11th, China has positively evaluated the US-China climate change meeting held in the United States.

On the 9th, the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced through a statement titled ‘Positive Achievements of the US-China Climate Change California Meeting’ posted on its official WeChat (Chinese version of KakaoTalk) account, “The climate meeting conducted by the climate envoys and teams of the United States and China has been successfully concluded.”

According to the statement, both sides exchanged comprehensive and in-depth opinions centered on the implementation of the ‘Bali Meeting Spirit’ of the two countries’ leaders.

The Bali Meeting Spirit refers to the matters agreed upon by President Joe Biden and President Xi Jinping at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Bali, Indonesia, last November.

It includes the so-called ‘Five Nos’: △ Not pursuing a new Cold War △ Not pursuing a change in the Chinese regime △ Not pursuing anti-China through alliance strengthening △ Not supporting Taiwan’s independence △ Not wanting to provoke a conflict with China.

In addition, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment added in the statement that the two countries agreed to cooperate and act on climate change issues, and to jointly work for the success and positive achievements of the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which is to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the end of this month.

US Presidential Climate Envoy John Kerry and Chinese Climate Change Envoy Xie Zhenhua recently discussed climate change issues in California until the day before.
