Samsung Electronics (005930) is actively implementing a hybrid model that combines remote and on-site work in its global hiring process. This strategy aims to secure top technical talent and improve employee satisfaction amidst the intensifying competition.

According to industry sources, Samsung Electronics has posted 503 job openings in various countries worldwide, excluding South Korea, as of December 12.

The total number of job postings specifying the work arrangement – on-site, remote, or hybrid – stands at 440. Among them, the majority, 286, offer hybrid work arrangements. Hybrid work allows employees to work from home or anywhere on certain days. There were also seven job postings for remote work.

Remote or hybrid work arrangements make up 58.3% (293) of the job postings. Even considering that some of these postings are for internships or part-time work, this is a significant proportion. On-site work opportunities account for only 147 (29.2%), less than a third of all job postings. For instance, a job posting for a Samsung Wallet Manager based in Chertsey, UK, lists hybrid work – three days in the office and two days at home – as one of the ‘Benefits of Working at Samsung.’

Samsung’s expansion of hybrid work arrangements is interpreted as an effort to increase employee satisfaction and secure top talent in the increasingly competitive job market. In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of employees preferring to work from home has significantly increased. Samsung appears to be leveraging hybrid work as a sustainable talent acquisition strategy. The company also shows confidence in maintaining productive output by utilizing various virtual tools.

Samsung Semiconductor’s Americas division (DSA) has introduced a hybrid work policy company-wide, requiring employees to come to the office at least three days a week. In a September interview with Forbes, Han Jin-man, Vice President of Samsung DSA, expressed satisfaction, stating, “Through the introduction of hybrid work, we were able to hire very valuable technical talent who do not live near the office.” A Samsung official said, “The conditions for work, such as hybrid, are not guidelines from the headquarters but are decided by each local subsidiary.”
