Woman Robbed During a Secondhand Trade
Motorcycle Photo Captured on Dashcam Revealed
The police are currently pursuing a male suspect.
During a resale transaction, the man allegedly stole a second-hand luxury bag worth 6 million Korean won (approximately $5,000).
The Bucheon Wonmi Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 21st that they received a 112 emergency call around 1:55 pm on the 19th, reporting a man who “ran off with a luxury bag” in front of a café in Jungdong, Bucheon.
The complainant, a woman in her 20s identified as A, reportedly met a man identified as B at a café after posting an ad on a second-hand transaction app to sell a Chanel bag worth about 6 million won (approximately $5,000).
A told the police, “I asked B to transfer the money to my account, but he grabbed the bag and ran off while pretending to use his phone. He escaped on a parked motorcycle in front of the store.”
Subsequently, A vented her frustration on the online community Bobaedream. She confessed, “I fell victim to a ‘grab and run’ scam, something I’ve only heard about. I thought B was a woman because he chatted using a female name, but he turned out to be a man.”
She continued, “B said he wanted to give the bag as a gift to his wife (which is why he showed up). Initially, I thought his wife was chatting, and he came to buy it. I told him to ‘check the expensive item carefully’ and showed him the bag. Then, when I asked B to transfer the money to my account, he grabbed the bag and just walked out. I was so angry that I couldn’t sleep.”
She also pleaded, “If anyone in the Bucheon or Incheon area has seen B, please report it,” and released a description of B caught on her car’s black box camera.
The police said, “We are tracking suspect B’s movements based on the surveillance camera at the scene and the car’s dash cam. We are currently identifying B’s identity. It is difficult to identify the number of motorcycles B used to escape.”
