Hwang Ui-jo Continues to Deny Illegal Filming Allegations
Claims the Involved Woman Is a Well-Known Married Individual
Sister-in-law Who Shared the Video Claims It Was a Result of Hacking
Controversy has erupted as Hwang Ui-jo (31), a national soccer team member, has again denied allegations of illegal filming, revealing some personal details of the woman involved in his statement.
Law Firm Daehwan, representing Hwang, stated on the 22nd that Hwang, accused of illegally filming sexual encounters with former partners, claimed the woman knew about the filming and continued the relationship afterward.
Hwang’s side stated, “We watched the video together with the woman, who was my girlfriend at the time. We mutually agreed to delete all the videos during the relationship but continued filming for over a year afterward,” he added. “The woman claims it’s illegal due to the lack of explicit agreement, but whether the filming and deletion, done with mutual recognition during a long-term relationship, qualify as ‘hidden camera’ is questionable.
They added, “Since the woman is a public figure active in broadcasting and is married, we have restrained our official response to protect her identity. We hoped the authorities’ strict investigation would reveal the truth.” They continued, “We are defending ourselves now as reports spread like Hwang’s crime is a foregone conclusion. People are accepting this woman’s one-sided position as the truth.”
However, critics have accused Hwang’s side of potentially causing secondary harm by revealing personal details about the woman. They argue that specifying “the woman is a public figure active in broadcasting” was unnecessary, raising questions about potential pressure on the woman who fears full exposure of her identity.
Hwang’s side asked, “If Hwang had illegally filmed, would he have contacted the victim to inform her of the damage and encouraged her to file a complaint? Please judge from a common sense perspective.” They also stated, “We are considering attending a cross-examination with the woman due to malicious suspicions raised.”
Hwang Ui-jo “Filmed with Consent” vs Victim “Never Agreed”
Previously, in June, a social media (SNS) account claimed, “Hwang Ui-jo is having relationships with multiple women and causing harm,” and distributed multiple videos.
At the time, Hwang reported his phone stolen to the police and claimed he had been blackmailed to release the photos. He also reportedly told the police during the investigation that he filmed the videos with consent.
However, on the 21st, the victim’s legal representative, lawyer Lee Eun, stated in a press release, “The victim never agreed to Hwang filming in the first place. There were even cases where she didn’t know filming had taken place until she was under investigation for this case.”
He added, “The victim repeatedly expressed her refusal and asked for the deletion, but he ignored it, and the illegal filming continued. All the victim could do in such a situation was to keep asking Hwang to delete the videos.”
He also said, “The victim felt angry and anxious, and she worried about the possible leak of the illegal videos, knowing that Hwang possessed them.”
The person who spread Hwang’s private life is ‘sister-in-law’… Denying criminal activity
Meanwhile, the person who spread and threatened Hwang’s private life was his sister-in-law, known as Ms. A. She was virtually working as Hwang’s manager, even accompanying Hwang and his brother on overseas business trips.
During the police investigation, Sister-in-law Ms. A denied the allegations and questioned the possibility of Hwang’s mobile phone being hacked. However, a police official dismissed her claim, stating, ‘We have substantiated the allegations, and there is no possibility of hacking.’
The police are also continuing their investigation into Hwang’s allegations of illegal filming. On the 18th, the police summoned Hwang as a suspect and seized his mobile phone for digital forensic analysis.
