Police have arrested a mother in her twenties after allegedly murdering her six-month-old baby by throwing the child out of a window.
According to the Gwangju Seobu Police Station on the 3rd, a 25-year-old mother, identified as A, is currently under investigation after being urgently arrested on suspicion of murdering her six-month-old daughter.
Earlier, Ms. A is accused of killing her daughter by throwing her out of the window of her 15th-floor apartment in Geumho-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, around 6:20 am that day.
According to police investigations, Ms. A committed the crime in a fit of anger after having a dispute with her spouse over financial issues and when her spouse left the house.
Upon returning home and finding the baby missing, the spouse reported to the police. Ms. A was arrested on the spot by the responding officers.
The baby, who was found on the first floor of the apartment, was transported to the hospital by the fire department but eventually passed away.
In accordance with guidelines that local police investigate incidents involving minors under the age of 13, the Seobu Police Station has transferred the case to the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency.
Last month, another shocking incident occurred where a woman was accused of killing her two-day-old baby and disposing of the body in a trash bag on the street.
The Gwangju District Prosecutor’s Office Women and Children’s Crime Investigation Department (Chief Prosecutor Jeong Hee-seon) announced that they had arrested and indicted woman B on charges of murder and abandoning a corpse.
The police urgently arrested Ms. B after discovering the incident during a full-scale investigation of unreported children who only had temporary newborn numbers.
Under current law, the penalty for infanticide is lower than that for general murder. While the minimum sentence for general murder is five years, infanticide carries a sentence of up to ten years in prison with no minimum term.
